Pul and Rajkhowa stress on road link from Tawang to Bhutan
ITANAGAR, Apr 29: Chief Minister Kalikho Pul has stressed on building direct road connectivity from Tawang to Bhutan, which will also provide the shortest connectivity to Guwahati via the Darranga land custom station in Nalbari district in Assam.
Pul said this during a meeting with Indian Ambassador to Bhutan, Jaideep Sarkar at the Chief Minister's Office on Friday.
Pul said that the opening of the road from Tawang to Darranga via Tashigaon in Bhutan would bypass the Sela pass - that often gets blocked due to heavy snow cover during winter and landslides in summer as well as cutting the travelling time to Guwahati by almost six hours.
Reiterating the need to develop close friendship and cooperation between Bhutan and Arunachal, Pul said that Arunachal and Bhutan share more than just a border - we also share cultural and religious histories, particularly the communities living in Tawang and West Kameng. He emphasized on developing the historical, cultural and trade links between the two regions by establishing border trade centres.
Appreciating the success story of hydropower and tourism development in Bhutan, he stressed on initiative for study tour between the two regions to learn the process of planning and execution adopted in the country.
Ambassador Sarkar, who had called on the Chief Minister, said that the embassy in Bhutan was ready to host delegates from Arunachal coming for study tour to learn about hydropower and tourism development in the country.
Responding to the request from the Chief Minister for opening border trade, the Ambassador agreed to convey the matter to King of Bhutan for road from Tawang to Bhutan.
Also suggesting a way to increase tourist flow in Arunachal, the Ambassador offered to talk to tour operators and the tourism department in the country to change the existing Bhutan-Nepal tour package to Bhutan-Arunachal.
Meanwhile, Governor JP Rajkhowa has emphasised on the urgent need to take up the Lumla-Tashigang road for strengthening the border trade between the India and Bhutan. He was interacting with the Ambassador of India to Bhutan, Jaideep Sarkar at Raj Bhawan, Itanagar on Friday.
The Governor said that apart from giving an alternate road for the people of Tawang to reach Guwahati and other parts of the country, the road will facilitate trade, tourism and other economic activities between the two countries.
He also asked him to facilitate in joint sector entrepreneurship projects for the entrepreneurs of both sides.
Recalling the ancient cultural ties between the people of Bhutan and Arunachal Pradesh and Assam, the Governor called for strengthening the age-old relationships. He suggested for people to people contacts and interactions through cultural exchange programmes and students and faculty exchanges programmes with the Bhutanese Universities and Rajiv Gandhi University, Doimukh, North Eastern Regional Institute of Science and Technology, Nirjuli and National Institute of Technology, Yupia.
Earlier, the Ambassador, who is on a tour to strengthen ties with Bhutan, briefed the Governor on the country and avenues for collaboration and cooperation. He requested the Governor for initiating in sending delegates from Arunachal Pradesh to Bhutan to start with, for cementing better ties and joint ventures, which the Governor assured to do at the earliest.
It is pertinent to mention here that the Indian portion of road from Lumla upto the border point at Warongde of Bhutan has already been completed and is motorable. A small stretch of 12 kms from Warongde to Khinye in Bhutan remains to be connected, beyond which an all weather road exists connecting all parts of Bhutan. The distance from Tawang to Guwahati via Samdrupdzongkar is 395 kms compared to the normal existing route, which is about 550 kms and thus a distance of 155 kms will be reduced, when Lumla-Tashigang road is connected.
2 killed as powerful cyclonic storm devastates Diyun

DIYUN, Apr 29: A powerful cyclonic storm hit many parts of Changlang district killing two persons in Diyun circle on Thursday evening.
The deceased were identified as fourteen year old Kalasogi Chakma and a six-month-old baby from Avoipur village.
The cyclonic storm coupled with heavy rains and hailstorm hit Diyun and its adjacent villages at around 5 pm and lasted for about 15-20 minutes.
Countless houses, especially those made of bamboos and woods were completely destroyed in the fierce wind and hailstorms. The damages are expected to cross worth crores of rupees, especially in Avoipur, Dumpani, Jyotipur, Shantipur, Bijoypur and Diyun Town.
Tagam Mibang, EAC, Diyun informed that the cyclonic storm left a trail of destruction in the entire Diyun circle.
"Many trees got uprooted and electric poles were damaged due to strong wind, causing complete disruption in electricity supply and telecommunication, he said.
Many houses, crop land, betel nut trees too were severely damaged. Major portion of the community hall and the market shed in Diyun has also been damaged along with the circuit house, the officer added.
Jairampur ADC Kento Riba, who was camping in Diyun also got involved in the damage control exercise.
Last week, Diyun circle of Changlang District have battled the wrath of the season's first flood due to which 80 families were rendered homeless and landless.
Deputy Commissioner of Changlang District along with ADC Bordumsa, S Miji on Friday visited Diyun and held a meeting with the GBs and PRI members and visited the flood affected village of Dumpani.
Within span of a week Diyun Circle has been hit by floods and cyclone causing damages in Crores of Rupees and people are yet to hear regarding this from the Chief Minister of the State.
The powerful cyclonic storm also hit areas like Pisi to Khagam, Miao and Mpen.
Several standing trees were uprooted causing disruption in power supplies in many parts.
A huge eucalyptus tree was uprooted at upper Miao and fell on a grocery cum electronic shop. Fortunately, the shopkeeper along with his family members and few customers present at that time escaped unhurt.
When contacted, officials of Power Department at Miao told that restoration of power supply may be delayed considering the magnitude of the damages caused to the distribution lines, electric poles.
Uninterrupted downpour over the last few weeks have rung alarm bells as all major rivers and streams are flowing above the danger mark. Submergence of agricultural fields and erosions were reported from every pocket of Changlang district. Hailstones have so far destroyed cash crops in large scale in Bordumsa, Miao and Changlang.
Meanwhile Chief Minister Kalikho Pul has expressed shock and grief over death of one young girl and a child in the cyclonic storm in Dayun circle.
He announced an ex-gratia relief of Rs 4 lakhs to the next of kin of the deceased family as per relief norms of the govt. Pul instructed the Changlang Deputy Commissioner to initiate the process immediately.
The Government has also sent report to the Ministry of Home Affairs regarding the incident and prevailing situations in the state.
Earlier in the day, MLA Nikh Kamin met the Chief Minister and apprised him of the situation in Diyun and Bordumsa that arose after the last week's flood and Thursday's cyclonic storm.
He instructed the ADC Bordumsa and EAC Diyun to leave no stone unturned in helping and being with the people of Diyun Circle in this hour of crisis.
Three candidates in fray for Kanubari by-poll

ITANAGAR, Apr 29: As the battle line has been drawn for by-election to 58thKanubariAssembly (ST) Constituency, Gabriel D Wangsu of People Party of Arunachal (PPA), ZyaeWangsu-Indian National Congress and WangrangWangzen-Independent Candidate have filed their nominations on Friday.
All the three contestants submitted their papers with Deputy Chief Electoral officer D J Bhattacharjee in Longding.
Scrutiny of papers would be held on April 30 while the last date of withdrawal of nominations is May 2 and counting of votes will take place on May 19.
The Election Commission on April 19 had announced bypoll to Kanubari constituency along with several other states. The notification was issued on April 22.
Surprisingly no BJP candidate has filed nomination despite the state unit’s statement that it would field its candidate in Kanubari by-Election.
It is reported that BJP is backing PPA candidate Gabriel D Wangsu. The BJP has reportedly denied ticket to its two-timed constant Rongnai Maham. Gabriel had won the first by-election that was held in October 15, 2015 after sitting MLA and former Minister Newlai Thinkatra died.
However, Kanubari seat again fell vacant after its Wangsu resigned during political turmoil last year.
Kanubari is one of the only constituencies in the country to witness two by- elections in five years term.
Congress candidate JyaeWangsu is two-time Zilla Parishad Member from Chubam Block. He had already served as Congress Block President of 58thKanubari Assembly Constituency. The 35 years old graduated in Commerce.
On other hand, Independent Candidate Wangr-angWangzen is an Independent ZPM representing Lawnu Block where Gabriel D Wangsu comes from.
It is said that earlier Wangzen supported Gabriel during the first by-poll. On being contacted, Wangzen said that he wasn't prepared to jump in fray saying that he was supporting BJP hopeful Rongnai Maham. However, after BJP denied ticket to Maham, he decided to file nomination sensing the public mood.
Tawang Lama opposed to hydro projects remain in police custody

ITANAGAR, Apr 29: Lama Lobsang Gyatso, a monk heading Save Mon Region Federation, a group opposed to hydro power projects in Tawang has been kept in Police custody till Monday.
Lama Lobsang was arrested on Thursday afternoon, based on a complaint that he had defamed the Abbot of the Tawang Monastery, Guru Tulku Rinpoche, the spiritual head of Mon region by questioning his nationality through an audio clip.
Lawyer Lham Tsering, representing Lama Lobsang said that he has been taken into police custody till Monday based on an order by the Executive cum Judicial Magistrate, EAC Rinchin Dorjee Thungon.
The lawyer said that the bail application was filed at 11 AM and the ruling for police custody of the Lama was given at 8.30 PM based on the Investigation Officer's report which the Magistrate termed as inconclusive.
The lawyer said that he will file fresh petition on Monday at the Court of the Judicial Magistrate.
Of the four sections against the Lama, two are non-bailable.
Though the audio clip credited to Lobsang Gyatso has annoyed many followers of the well regarded Rinpoche, insiders say that it has been twisted out of context for political reasons as Gyatso is an outspoken opponent of the hydro power projects as well as the three MLAs of Tawang district who belongs to the same family.
In the audio clip (in Monpa language) which is with this daily, Lama Lobsang Gyatso is heard stating that Abbot of Tawang Monastery should not indulge in hydro power politics of Tawang, if he is not concerned about the well being of the area. In the audio clip, Lama Lobsang is also heard questioning the nationality of the Abbot of the Tawang Monastery.
The whole ruckus started after a meeting was held on Thursday in Tawang called by the Zila Parishad Chairperson Jambey Tsering to discuss developments issues.
But instead, the meeting ended up as a political propaganda against Lama Lobsang Gyatso based on the audio clip.
Hundreds of PRI members turned up for the meeting, who subsequently filed an FIR against the monk, angered at the content of the audio clip.
Yesterday, Lama Lobsang had written to the Tawang police for protection after he was allegedly threatened by ZPM Lobsang Yonten during the public meeting called by the Zila Parishad Chairperson.
In an audio recording, the ZPM is clearly heard threatening the Monk.
The veracity of the audio clips purportedly by the Lama and the ZPM is yet to be established.
The ZPM was also taken into custody.
According to sources, a group of monks gathered outside the Police station on Friday demanding the release of Lobsang Gytaso while another group also protested against him.
Insiders say that protest marches are being planned against Lama Lobsang for insulting the Abbot of the Tawang Monastery, allegedly at the behest of the political leaders, who are bent to crush the voices opposing the hydro power development.
The Officer in Charge of the Tawang Police station did not respond to calls of this daily while DC and SP did not respond to text messages.
Students assault TAH workers

ITANAGAR, Apr 29: In yet another shocking incident, a group of unidentified drunk students allegedly thrashed workers engaged in Trans-Arunachal highway work. The incident took place on Tuesday last in between Tissa and Khonsa. As per the report, when the construction agency was busy in clearing landslide in presence of PWD officials, the group of boys from nearby village who are said to be member of local student union started misbehaving.
They thrashed the JCB driver causing grievous injury and also misbehaved with a PWD engineer who was monitoring the work. Since then the work has completely been stopped at the site. The construction agency has lodged complaint and matter is being taken up with local administration. The 42.5 KM Longding-Tissa-Khonsa road is a two lane road project which is part of the ambitious Trans-Arunachal Highway.
Besides constant disturbances from local elements, the agencies involved in construction of TAH project in Tirap, Changlang and Longding alleged of constant extortion threat from various underground groups. "We receive many extortion letters from various UG groups seeking money for their organizations. The demand keep growing as everyday new faction keeps forming. It is becoming increasingly difficult to continue the work," said an official of agency engaged in TAH work.
Itanagar to host International Jazz Day
ITANAGAR, Apr 29: Itanagar will host International Jazz Day on April 30 at Mopin Solung ground where the music fraternity will come together with people from all walks of life, creative and professionals alike to forge an alliance in creating a homogeneous community to work towards sending a message of peace, harmony and community participation.
Itanagar Jazz Society along with Dream Catcher Events is conducting the festival.
International Jazz Day is a yearly event held on 30 April, organized by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) to celebrate "the virtues of jazz as an educational tool, and a force for peace, unity, dialogue and enhanced cooperation among people." The Day was proclaimed during the UNESCO General Conference in November 2011.
International artists such as Matteo Fabroni Quartet from Italy; acclaimed and renowned pianist Utsav Lal, a distinct alumni from the prestigious Scotland Conservatory of Music and also an endorsee of soft piano; along with Mana Dhanraj, a well known jazz singer from Bangalore and Nathaniel Institute of Music will perform at the event. Renowned artists like Toko Teji, one of the finest jazz drummers in the country and finalist at India's Got Talent along award winning bands like the Royal Flush and Omak Komut Collective, the famous folk fusion band will perform at the event.
As part of the celebrations, workshops will be conducted in government and public schools within Itanagar to educate about history and culture of the modern music and arts. Poetry recitations and display through other creative mediums such as photography and paintings will also be housed in the traditional huts at the festival ground.
Attack on army convoy: NIA files charge sheet
New Delhi, Apr 29: NIA has filed a charge sheet against an NSCN-IM militant in connection with the ambush on an army convoy in Arunachal Pradesh on April 2, 2015, in which three jawans were killed.
The charge sheet was filed before a National Investigation Agency Special Court for Arunachal Pradesh at Yupia yesterday in which NSCN (IM) militant Kapai alias Singmayo Kapai, a resident of Nagaland, has been named as the key accused. NIA told the court that it would continue further investigation in the case as certain other accused are yet to be apprehended, a release issued by the agency here said today.
According to NIA, militants belonging to NSCN(IM) ambushed the convoy of army soldiers on April 2 on Khonsa-Longding road near Tupi village, about 15 km from Khonsa Police Station in Tirap district of Arunachal Pradesh.
Three army personnel were killed and three others were seriously injured in the incident.
During the course of investigation, NIA collected evidence from the field as well as technical and forensic evidence, which was submitted along with the charge sheet to the Special Court. PTI
Consul General assures to take up Arunachal funding with US
ITANAGAR, Apr 29: The US Consul General, Kolkata, Craig L. Hall on Thursday assured to take up the issue of funding of development projects of Arunachal Pradesh with US government and the International Financial Institutions.
The US Consul General said this when he called on Arunachal Pradesh Governor, JP Rajkhowa at Raj Bhavan.
While discussing on areas of mutual interests and cooperation, the US Consul General suggested joint ventures and partnership in trade and commercial sectors through Commercial Service Office of the US Consulate, Kolkata. 'As the Consulate is aware of the US companies interested in contract works for infrastructure development in India and in the North East in particular with special focus on Arunachal Pradesh', the Consulate office may be informed of international tenders for quality and latest technology based projects, he added.
The Governor further advised the state government officers present to widely circulate the tenders for International Competitive Bidding (ICB) through the internet and also keep the US Consulate informed.
The US Consulate General also briefed the Governor on Fulbright Scholar program and Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange and Study (YES) program, funded by the U.S. Department of satate. He informed that only 2% of participants are from North East region and institutions in US are interested in students from different cultures and regions, thereby providing students of NE more chances in availing the opportunities.
The Governor while, highlighting on the vast potentials of the state in terms of hydropower, horticulture, minerals, tourism and other allied sectors, emphasised on investments and joint ventures. He further said that US must see that this interior and easternmost part of India is not deprived of its legitimate right and aspirations for funding of developmental assistance from International Banks due to reservations of some countries.

Gram Sabha on Participatory Planning held
PASIGHAT, Apr 29: A special Gram Sabha was held at Taki Lalung-1 gram panchayat under Pasighat CD Block, East Siang district for generation of required awareness on Participatory Planning under 'My Village My Development Plan' guidelines 2015.
Queries pertaining to situation analysis as prescribed in the MVMDP Guidelines 2015, baseline survey, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Grameen) and MGNREGA were raised by members, which were duly responded to by the resource persons. The resource persons also suggested a tentative schedule for acquiring the baseline data generated and compiled in reference to activities under SAGY for the purposes of preparing the Situation Analysis Report and subsequent presentation in Gram Sabha for finalising development thrust area. Then onwards the process of 'Projectisation', presentation of 'Projects' or development schemes in next sitting of Gram Sabha to the development of Gram Panchayat Development Plan (GPDP) was suggested by the resource persons.
An overview on the process of planning including composition of Gram Panchayat Development Committees, need and importance of proper and timely utilisation of 14th Finance Commission Grants was detailed by the resource persons. The corresponding documentation and the interlinkage between the Gram Panchayat Development Plans and Anchal Samities were also briefed to the Gram Sabha. The Anchal Samiti Chairperson also briefed the Gram Sabha. The Panchayat Technical Assistants also briefed the Gram Sabha by translating important points in local dialect to facilitate better transfer of learning.
The Gram Sabha members also expressed the need for proper support for completing the prescribed documentation from concerned officials. The Gram Sabha was informed that SIRD Arunachal Pradesh has trained the Panchayat Technical Assistants on the process of MVMDP and consequent development of GPDP. DIPRO
Proper demarcation of boundaries of Lohit, Changlang and Namsai demanded
ITANAGAR, Apr 29: Cultural and Literary Society of Mishmi (CALSOM) has demanded proper demarcation of boundaries of Lohit, Changlang and Namsai districts to prevent intrusion of Chakma refugees.
In a memorandum to the Lohit Deputy Commissioner, CALSOM said that the Chakma refugees settling at Changlang district frequently intrude into the Mishmi territory in the Wakro circle of Lohit district leading to communal clashes.
In order to prevent intrusion it is imperative to demarcate the boundary of the three districts, the memorandum said.
Besides, the district administration needs to ensure that Chakma refugees stay within their areas earmarked by the govt. and refrain from encroaching upon the land of the indigenous community, it said.
It also urged to the District Administration to launch awareness campaign to educate the people of the adverse impacts of opium and drug addiction.
Since the opium addicts can not afford to visit the de-addiction centre located outside of the district, a de-addiction centre is required in Lohit District, the memorandum appealed.
The law enforcing agencies also need to take stringent action against those people involved in drug peddling under the provisions of NDPS Act to curb the drug menace, CALSOM said.
To preserve the precious wildlife for posterity, CALSOM also demanded to put complete bon on hunting and stringent action against the offenders under the Wildlife Protection Act 1972.
"Unfortunately, hunting of birds and animals has been rampant in Lohit district, including the Kamlang wildlife sanctuary posing a serious threat to the wildlife. Even some Govt. officers and employees takes sadistic pleasure in killing the beautiful animals and birds, CLSOM said.
Rains leaves trail of devastation in Miao sub-division
ITANAGAR, Apr 29: The recent incessant rains and ensuing flood has left a trail of devastation in Miao sub-division under Changlang district.
A release from ADC Miao informed that M'Pen 6 Mile, 7 Mile and 8 Mile villages situated in the buffer zone of Namdapha National Park and left bank of Noa-Dehing River is the the worst sufferer with severe cases of erosion and submergence due to the devastating flood.
ADC Miao, T Mara accompanied by SDAO, K Socia, SDHO, L Tangha, WRD JE, Vicky and other govt officials took stock of the affected villages of the Miao sub-division on April 28.
The villagers informed the officials that large numbers of domestic animals were lost in the flood, while large tracts of Wet Rice Cultivated fields were submerged by the Noa-Dehing River on April 12. Six families have completely lost their WRC fields in M'Pen 6 mile village.
The official report stated that there is no embankment to protect M'Pen village from Noa-Dehing River and the village is under constant danger from overflowing Noa- Dehing river as it is still above danger level. The village will be wiped out in near future if no steps are taken to protect is taken.
Other villages affected and at high risk are Dharampur I, II and III as some streams of the Nao-Dehing river are flowing through the villages flooding six households. Many families have also lost their WRC fields and other agricultural land as they have been stranded homeless and waiting for help from the government.
Further, many villages have been badly affected under Miao township area with the Namdapha Eco-Cultural festival ground being submerged by flood water.
DM appeals people to defy May 2 bandh call, IMWA seeks for withdrawal
ITANAGAR, Apr 29: District Magistrate in order has declared the proposed Bandh called by All Arunachal Contractors' Welfare Association on May 2 as illegal, unconstitutional, and appealed public to defy it.
Such bandh calls not only create un-pleasant law and order situation but also causes untold miseries to common people, students, daily wage earners and heavy economic losses to the state, the DM in its order said.
The District Administration has also warned of various actions against the bandh sponsors, like detention and cancellation of their arms license, if they go ahead with the bandh calls.
Informing that full security would be provided by the Police in all the market areas at Itanagar, Naharlagun, Nirjuli and Banderdewa, the DA appealed to the business community to open their shops and transport associations to ply their commercial vehicles as usual on the day of bandh call.
He instructed the SP Capital Complex to deploy sufficient forces at all the important locations, such as business establishments, petrol pumps etc and also to carryout regular patrolling in the Capital Complex, reports DIPRO.
The Itanagar Market Welfare Association (IMWA) has requested All Arunachal Contractors' Welfare Association (AACWA) to withdraw its 12 hours bandh call proposed on May 2 next.
Suggesting that AACWA needs to find alternative means to negotiate with the state government rather than disturbing the normal life of capital denizens, it said it would resist the movement within its jurisdiction.
The association has further called on the chief minister to heed to the demands of AACWA at the earliest.
13 AR provides solar lamps to four villages under MCAP
MIAO, Apr 29: 13 Assam Rifles based in Miao under the command of Major Aditya Vikram Singh provided 20 solar lamps each to four far flung local villages under Namphai-II of Miao administrative circle.
The villages include New Khamlang, Songking, Nayang and Ningrang. The solar lamps were handed over to village representatives by Additional Deputy Commissioner Tayom Mara, Zilla Parishad Member Jowkhong Singpho, Circle Officer Namrata Bhatt and the major himself in a simple at Miao market on Friday.
Speaking during the function, Major Singh said the motto behind giving the solar lamps under Military Civic Action Program was to help far flung villagers in meeting the electricity problems. He also assured to conduct free medical camps and provide other affordable items under MCAP to other villages under his jurisdiction in the days to come.
In return, Major Singh sought the support and cooperation of the villagers in dealing with the “menace of evils”.
Additional Deputy Commissioner Mara expressed hope that villagers will make best use of the facilities. He advised AR to reach out to every village and try to win the heart of every villager through people friendly initiatives.
ASM of Khamlang Kumyung Hacheng informed that though electrified, these villages power supply remains cut off during rainy season owing numerous reasons. He further appealed for conduct of free medical camps in near future.
"On our part, we assure our continuous allegiance and untiring support to 13 AR," Hachang said.
The Assam Rifles based in Khonsa organized an interactive session with the remote villages near Myanmar border with an attempt to improve civil-military relationship to curb insurgency and create an insurgent free environment.
Later, one solar lamp each was provided to 400 people from Khanu and Kunsa villages under Kunsa circle of Longding district.
Upper Subansiri emerge winner of State Level Wado Kai Karate Championship
ITANAGAR, Apr 29: Team from Upper Subansiri district emerged as the winner of the 3rd State Level Wado Kai Karate Championship 2016 held at Multipurpose hall, Yingkiong, on April 26 and 27 last. The team won 28 gold, 15 silver and three bronze medals.
Kra-Daadi and Papum Pare districts emerged with second and third positions respectively. Kra-Daadi grabbed seven gold, 12 silver and 15 bronze medals while Papum Pare had to be content with five gold, 10 silver and five bronze medals.
Team from the host district bagged the title of disciplined team.
The two days event which was organized by Upper Siang Karate-Do-Association and Upper Siang Wado-Kai Karate Association also saw participation from Kurung Kumey and Lower Subansiri districts.
NEE-2016 result declared
ITANAGAR, Apr 29: The results of NERIST Entrance Examination(NEE)-2016 has been declared. The detail of the results is available on www.nerist.ac.in. The Counseling and admission for the successful candidates will be held in July, 2016.
The NEE-2016 was held on April 23-24 in various centres of the N.E Region including the state of Arunachal Pradesh.
DFO fined for failing to provide info
ITANAGAR, Apr 29: Arunachal Pradesh Information Commission (APIC), under Section 20(1) of the RTI Act, 2005 has imposed penalty of Rs. 25, 000 on Kurung Kumey (Koloriang) DFO Gyamar Mima for not furnishing information as sought by an information seeker. He has been directed to deposit the penalty amount within May 16, 2016, according to an APIC release.
The information was sought by one Piki Mangmi.
Central team assess damages
TAWANG, Apr 29: A central team consisting of MHA Joint Secretary, Beena Kumari and officers from Ministry of Finance, NITI Aayog and Geological Survey of India reached here on Friday to assess the damages caused by the recent landslide.
The team accompanied by state Chief Secretary, Shakuntala Gamlin, Commissioner, Hage Kojeen, DM, MLAS of the district, DC and SP, Tawang visited Shingteng, Bomdir, Kyableng, Famla, Kakalling slide point and also inspected damages within Tawang township. (DIPRO)
Tapor Paboh passes away
PASIGHAT, Apr 29: Tapor Paboh, Political Interpreter, attached to Kebang Branch, DC's office, Pasighat passed away on April 26 at the General Hospital, Pasighat.
Officers and staffs of DC office Pasighat and ADC office Mebo have condoled the sudden demise of Paboh. Expressing deep shock and grief, DC in-charge Bani Lego and ADC Mebo Y Tayeng in their messages offered prayers for eternal peace to the departed. Born on August 28, 1963, Paboh joined the service on Aug 30 1991. He is survived by his wife, a son and four daughters. DIPRO

Cleanliness drive held
ITANAGAR, Apr 29: A mass cleanliness drive was conducted by the members of the All Kimin-Kakoi Youth Association (AKKYA) at Community Health Centre and sub-divisional office, Kimin.
The drive was carried out under the supervision of AKKYA president Tai Charu, Kimin SDO incharge, Tana Bapu and CHC MO incharge Dr. Minge Tato.
Pastors' training programme underway
ITANAGAR, Apr 29: Christian Revival Church, Naharlagun organized 3 day-long state level training for the state's Revival churches pastors began at the Church's premises on Thursday.
Pastors from around 648 churches of 13 district besides, various revival churches of the Capital Complex are undergoing training.
In his inaugural address, Nampong MLA Laisam Simai spoke on the importance of godly leadership and opined that becoming a leader could be easy but maintaining the true spirit of leadership is crucial. While emphasising the need of such trainings in line of church oriented leadership, he further encouraged the pastors to be role models.
Former Palin MLA Balo Raja who also attended the programme exhorted the participants to be disciplined, diligent and dedicated leaders.
Programme organizing secretary, Dr. David Pertin and Pastor Hillang Taya also spoke on the occasion.
Gangte electrified
ITANAGAR, Apr 29: Gangte circle under Kra-Daadi district got electricity for the first time on April 24 last.
Switching on the bulb, superintending engineer (E) Ziro Division, Bar Takum, assured to provide a 100 KVA transformer to Gangte town.
The inauguration ceremony was also attended by Palin MLA Takam Pario, DC Habung Doni, ZPM Yangte Tarh Monica, ZPM Gangte Tarak Langdi Rei Tallo Pallo and EE (E) Kra-Daadi Division, Narang Gambo among others.
Rally against drugs and alcoholism
AALO, Apr 29: Members of Drug Free Arunachal, an NGO who have been organizing motorbike rallies against drugs and alcoholism in various parts of the state, reached Aalo on Friday to spread the message of Drug Free and Dry State in Arunachal.
A joint rally by Mothers' Vision, APPWS, PAYWA and Aalo Motorcyclists' Association was also taken out on the occasion, from General Football Ground to various streets of town.
Drug Free Arunachal's Nabam Serbang said that consumption of alcohol, narcotics and other contraband drugs by youths will have adverse affect on their health, family and social life and claimed that liquor outlets have become source of misery for the young and old. He further appealed all to extend their support for making Arunachal Pradesh a 'Dry state'. (DIPRO)
31 stray animals eliminated
NAHARLAGUN, Apr 29: A total of 29 pigs and 2 goats were eliminated by the Capital Complex administration on Friday at Naharlagun.
An official release stated that a team led by EAC Naharlagun, Hento Karga and CO, Neelam Teji is carrying out the stray animal elimination drive as it causes obstruction, nuisance and traffic problems at public places, roads etc.
CO Naharlagun informed that despite repeated notices and warnings, the owners are not taking adequate measures to keep the animals off the public places and roads. The drive shall continue with the attempt to eliminate all stray animals.
The administration has requested the residents of Naharlagun to cooperate and not to rear animals particularly pigs which creates an unhygienic environment. DIPRO
Skill development classes conducted
ITANAGAR, Apr 29: The Department of Automobile Engineering, Rajiv Gandhi Govt. Polytechnic, Itanagar conducted innovative skill development classes on two-wheeler, repair and maintenance for the final year AUE students from April 25 to 29 under AICTE-NEQIP scheme.
During one week long skill development classes, various topics on two-wheeler technology such as engine, clutch, gear box, suspension system, lighting system were covered. The students were also made aware of common troubles in two-wheeler and their remedies.
An official release stated that two-wheeler technology being completely different from four-wheeler technology, such skill development classes would help the students to enhance their knowledge and get more exposure to practical aspects. Appreciating the innovative skill development classes, the students expressed the desire to attend more such classes on specialized areas of automotive technology.
Director denies allegation
ITANAGAR, Apr 29: The Director, Agriculture has denied violation of guidelines and placing supply order for farm machineries to a Papunallah based private company as alleged by All Papum Pare District Students' Union (APPDSU).
Responding to APPDSU's press statement alleging violation of general guidelines by the Director (Agri) in placing supply order, which was published in this daily on Friday, the Director clarified that "on the basis of farmers' choice of make, brand, model and HP (Horse Power) and recommendation of the DAO, Papum Pare, supply order was placed to the Corporate Office of the manufacturer for supply of farm machineries with an endorsement letter to its local authorized dealer for information and needful action."
No supply order was placed to the Papunallah based private company as has been alleged, claimed the Director.
He said that the farmers have the freedom to choose the model and brand of farm machineries for availing government financial assistance under the programme.
Aalo will be free from unwanted structures: DC
AALO, Apr 29: West Siang Deputy Commissioner Pige Ligu said that all unwanted and illegal structures within Aalo Township will be removed.
While inaugurating the newly constructed RCC Police Station with separate jail rooms for male and female on Friday, the Deputy Commissioner announced that all unwanted growths in the township will be removed.
He also disclosed that construction of Trans Arunachal Highway will start soon.
